SEARCY—Freshman Eric Swierc scored twice and added an assist to lead the Harding Bisons to a 4-0 victory over the Crichton Comets at First Security Stadium on Tuesday night. It was Harding's first victory of the season.
Both Harding (1-3-0) and Crichton (0-4-1) had entered the game winless in 2007. Crichton had scored one goal all season, and the Bisons had been scoreless in their first three matches.
Sophomore Chad Marshall scored on a tap-in from six yards away following a free kick from senior Jedda Bragg and a header from Swierc to give Harding a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute. Swierc headed in a goal off a corner kick by junior Ross Bordeau, his third career assist.
Harding led at halftime 2-0 and did not score again until the final 10 minutes of the game. Swierc scored on a cross from Bragg in the 82nd minute.
Junior Seth Coleman dove for a header with 13 seconds remaining in the match to record his first career goal, giving the Bisons a 4-0 lead. Junior Carter Truax contributed the assist.
Sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Flesher recorded one save and collected his first career shutout, the 16th shutout in program history. The Bisons tied the record for fewest shots on goal by an opponent with one allowed, tying the mark set in an 11-0 victory over Williams Baptist in 2002.
Harding is now 4-4 in games played at First Security Stadium.
The Bisons will play again Saturday against Lambuth in Jackson, Tenn., at 2 p.m. and will return home to host Lyon College on Sept. 11 at 7:30 p.m.
